FAQ Master Information Systems and Master Business Administration with focus on Information Systems

Seminar paper and Master thesis must be completed in the Department of Information Systems (LS Gerlach, LS Gnewuch, LS Krämer, LS Widjaja).

You must complete both the mandatory seminar and your final thesis at one of the chairs belonging to the Information Systems department, as listed at https://www.winfo.uni-passau.de/en/the-department.
Other chairs or teaching units are not part of the Information Systems department, even if they may offer individual courses within the field of “Information Systems.”

Seminar

At the end of the pre-semester, there is a common registration or application period for seminars at the School of Business, Economics and Information Systems . Within this period, you can apply for a seminar place via the respective online form of the individual business informatics chairs. Please note that you can only apply for a seminar in the Information Systems department. The coordination of the allocation of places in cases of hardship is carried out internally between the Information Systems Chairs.

Abschlussarbeit

For final theses, the chairs have individual requirements and registration periods (e.g. registration only possible at the end of the previous semester, registration also possible during an ongoing semester). Please refer to the information provided by the individual chairs.

No, this is not possible because ZKK courses are not Master's courses.

If a course can be credited in different areas according to the module catalogue, you must select the correct area in which the course is to be credited when registering in Campusportal or when registering at the department. Please plan your studies in accordance with the regulations applicable to your degree so that it is not necessary to transfer credits. The StuPo does not provide for any rebookings. This means that you are not entitled to have any errors made in the allocation during enrolment corrected.

  • The StuPos generally do not provide for rebooking, so this is not possible without restrictions. You must register in the campus portal in the area in which you want to have the course permanently (and not just for a specific moment).
  • If a course can be credited in several areas, plan your studies in such a way that rebooking is not necessary, taking into account the regulations applicable to the degree.
  • As an exception, the Examinations Office will only make rebookings once and at the end of the degree programme and only if the course can be credited.
  • Please also note that the allocation of courses to areas may change during the course of your degree programme. Rebookings will only be made in accordance with the allocation valid at that time.
  • However, credits that have already been booked are protected. This means that you do not have to worry that a new allocation of a course will change your existing allocation.

Unfortunately, a course that has already been taken to obtain a bachelor's degree cannot be taken again to obtain a master's degree.

The situation is different if you are aiming for several degrees at the same qualification level. For example, you can only complete a course that is included in both the Master Business Administration and Master Information Systems once (e.g., in the Master BA) and have it credited to the other degree program (e.g., the Master IS) upon request.
